#nowplaying

Here are a few of the songs that are making the rounds on my iPod, whether it be in the car as I'm driving to work or singing in my hairbrush.

1. Nicest Thing - Kate Nash

2. Make You Feel My Love - Adele

3. Near to You - A Fine Frenzy

4. Parachute - Ingrid Michaelson

5. One Thing - One Direction
What? I just really love them, okay? Quit judging.

6. This Love (Will Be Your Downfall) - Ellie Goulding

And, just for fun and because all of the above songs are essentially the same thing (hey, I like what I like):

7. Lovumba (Prestige) - Daddy Yankee
Yep, it's all in Spanish, and yep, it's awesome.

So go listen to all of these songs, and remember to download your music legally!

Thoughts on Skinny Ties

This post is dedicated to my lovely friend Rachel, who said that I should post about why skinny ties are hot so she can convince her boyfriend to wear one. Sam, if you're reading this- just put on a skinny tie and make the girl happy.

For the rest of you, skinny ties are attractive. It is a well known fact among all females. The males who have caught on to this are clearly the smart ones. If you wear one and you don't have girls dying to rip off your clothes...you're probably doing something wrong somewhere else (skinny jeans, white sunglasses, Hawaiian shirts on a day other than Friday, to name a few. Fix those first, then you'll be fine).

Reasons why skinny ties are attractive:

Reason Number One

Reason Number Two

Reason Number Three

Reason Number Four

And finally:

I know, I know. He's not even wearing a skinny tie, I just threw him in for good measure.

In conclusion, men: if you wear a skinny tie you will look like this. That is all. Thank you.

Love, Amanda and Rachel.

One of my biggest fears.

So, here I am, sitting in Starbucks blogging my little heart out. Can I just say that Skinny Peppermint Mochas are probably the best thing that have ever existed? Also, I have to vainly admit- these bedhead waves are some of my best work. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to look like you make no effort, and sometimes it takes a little work to look like you made absolutely no effort. Anyway, I digress.

I realized one of my biggest fears today. What is it, you ask? I'm afraid that my baby sisters will marry rednecks and never leave our sad little town. I clearly don't have that problem because I'm currently sitting 8 hours away in one of the coolest metropolitan areas in the country (I'm biased, sorry).  But really, I've noticed that a lot of people from my hometown tend to do that. They grow up there, they go to college there, they get married there and they never leave. How sad is that? There's so much more exciting stuff out there to see. So, baby sisters, do me a favor and don't marry rednecks and get stuck in that town, okay? But mostly don't marry rednecks. Gross.

Anyway, that's all. I'm going to the movies now to FINALLY see The Avengers. I'm literally the last person on this planet who wants to see it and still hasn't. That'll be fixed in about 30 minutes. Yesssss.

Later, fools.

These are a few of my favorite things

1. Puppies
Seriously, any puppy (but mostly Pomeranians). As long as it's fluffy. None of those creepy skinny hairless things. "It's so fluffy I'm gonna die!"

2. Guys in button-downs with the sleeves rolled up.
As the hilarious Jenna Marbles once said, "What's that sound? It's the sound of me throwing my underwear across the room".
Also of note: preppy ties (a la Ralph Lauren). Brb, swooning.

3. Chapstick
I can't go anywhere without it, and if I do I am not a happy camper.

4. Staying up late at night reading
You know when you're really into a good book and you look at the clock and realize it's 1 a.m.? Yeah? Come on, I can't be the only one who does that.

5. Having entire conversations with friends without saying anything
You know you're friends when you can look at someone and realize exactly what the other person is thinking. This is an art form.

6. Foreign babies
Normally I have minimal interest in babies, but there is something about seeing an Asian or Indian baby that just makes me smile. Is that racist? I think it's opposite racism because they're my favorite.

That's all for now folks.

Random Musings

My social life is off to a bit of a slow start. Not that I haven't done stuff or met people( I've done both, obv.) I just haven't done as much as I would've liked. I like to blame it on the fact that my friends tend to be a bit lazy compared to me (still love you guys, mean it!). Honestly though, if it were up to me, I would have the entire summer booked up and all activities slotted in my Google calendar. Le sigh.

Normally, here in DC when I meet people for the first time I have a conversation that goes like this:
     Them: "Where are you from?"
     Me: "South Carolina"
Them[genuine surprise] "What! You don't sound like it!"
     Me: So I've been told.
I usually attribute it to the fact that my parents aren't from the South so we speak proper English in my house (except for my mom's strange midwestern dialect, but you know.) But today, a guy recognized my repressed Southern accent! He's from New Yawk though, so I guess it was easy for him to pick out. I accidentally said "y'all" to my boss today. I gotta work on that.

The suburbs make me want to kill myself. (Not really, it's a figure of speech, sheesh.) But seriously, what do these people do for fun? Oh wait, have lots of kids. Except that doesn't sound like fun at all. Dear God I'd probably go crazy if I was stuck here.  I mean, there are shops and restaurants and stuff, but you can only go to Reston Town Center so many times.

I got my Starbucks Gold Card in the mail today. It's official- I'm one of the cool kids now. So of course, I had to celebrate by going to Starbucks. I had my favorite peppermint mocha and sat and watched the rain. I also watched a brat knock over a rich lady's tea- it missed her Vuitton within inches. It was fabulous

This is Gabi the Yorkie, the dog of one of my landlord's friends. This sweet little thing came to hang out with me today. It's so sad not having my own puppy around, but she really makes up for it when she visits. If I pet her and then stop paying attention to her for a while, she'll start dancing around to get me to look at her again. (Sounds like some people I know.) So cute : )
